Everyone knows there are plenty of places to visit in California, but you want a couple’s getaway where you can enjoy each other just as much as you can enjoy your surroundings. So, where are the best places to go to get everything you want? I’ve narrowed it down to 7 of the best places to visit in California for couples.
Not only is the country side beautiful, but touring the vineyards and wine tasting is an incredible experience. With views for miles around and shops selling wine and picnic items you can roll out a blanket and relax with your partner as you enjoy the scenic beauty around you, and of each other. Wine country is an absolute must for couples.
There is something magical about the Magic Kingdom, it doesn’t seem like the most romantic place but it’s a great venue to make memories. If you’re planning a proposal it’s ideal, because Sleeping Beauty’s castle offers an amazing photo op and is incredibly romantic for any girl who has dreamt about a fairy tale ending.
To San Diegans, Julian is where to head for apple pie, apple picking and snow ball fights. For couples, though, Julian offers a small mountain town that was borne from the gold rush era. With a typically quaint Main Street that features tea shops and art galleries, you can also treat yourself to horse carriage rides. You can visit orchards for apple picking or hayrides, and there are over 10 bed and breakfasts to choose from.
You’ll find Big Bear right in the heart of the San Bernadino Mountains (around 100 miles from LA). The gorgeous mountain resort is home to rustic cabins, bed and breakfasts and in the winter months you can ski and sled. Don’t worry, there’s water sports in summer, you can rent canoes to explore Big Bear Lake. Horseback riding is available all year round.
Sycamore Mineral Springs, San Luis Obispo
Above Avila Beach, nestled in the wooded hillsides you will find Sycamore Mineral Springs. You can treat yourself to indulgent spa treatments and then pamper yourself by jumping in to your (private) redwood hot tub, or take a stroll through the Meditation Gardens Labyrinth. It doesn’t really what you do, you’ll be doing it together and in luxury and relaxation. It’s also home to the Gardens of Avila restaurant, which just happens to have been voted the Most Romantic Restaurant on the Central Coast.
Cardiff by the Sea
You’ll find this small town just north of San Diego and it looks more like it belongs in Nantucket than California. It’s located in Encinitas, bordering Solana Beach, and offers a relaxing beach getaway.
Just 26 miles off of the coast of Los Angeles lies Catalina Island. On the main town of the island, Avalon, you will find restaurants along the waterfront, art galleries and boat rentals. With stunning bed and breakfasts, cottages and a resort that is spa equipped there are plenty of places to stay, and if you time it right you can enjoy the annual jazz festival.
