7 Airplane Hotels You Have to See to Believe

Just in case the plane ride to your destination isn’t enough flying for you, have sweet dreams at one of these cool airplane-themed hotels! You can find dozens of aviation hotels all around the world, but these are some of the best. Aviation enthusiasts, prepare to be amazed! Some of these are awesome enough to build a vacation around.

Hangar Hotel, Texas

Step back into the 1940s when you enter this richly furnished hotel! You’ll enjoy seeing airplane memorabilia, learning about planes, and reminiscing about a bygone era. Even the phone in your room will look like something out of the WWII period! Every detail of this place is created to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. When you wake up, take a peek out the window to see all the small planes on the runway in front of the hotel. Nearby, the connected diner and conference center are also aviation themed.

Alexis Park Inn, Iowa

Although you can’t tell from the outside, this Midwest gem is all about the airplanes. Each room is named after a different pilot, craft, or element of flight, and each is created especially to reflect that theme. When you’re not out and about, you can relax with one of the many aviation-themed books from the library. There is also a flight simulator on the grounds of the hotel! If that doesn’t tempt you, you’ll also like to know that Alexis Park Inn is one of the least expensive accommodation options in Iowa City. So you get a fun stay and a good price.

Woodlyn Park Plane Motel, New Zealand

You may be interested to know that this motel is one of a collection; you can also stay at the train motel, the ship motel, or the hobbit motel. If aviation is your jam, you’ll love staying in the plane motel. A real 1950s Bristol Freighter has been transformed into a pair of rooms that you can sleep in! Surprisingly, the rooms cost less than $150 per night and can be the most memorable hotel experience you’ll ever have.

Protea Hotel by Marriot O.R. Tambo Airport, South Africa

It looks like a hangar, but it feels like a comfortable motel! In addition to the towels, which are inexplicably folded into the shape of a puppy when you arrive, the hotel features dozens of interesting aspects. The stools at the bar are made from tires, there is a flight simulator, and the old runway has a sparkling pool that tempts you to pull on your swimsuit and jump in. It’s fun, and it’s also a very nice hotel to relax in.

727 Fuselage Home, Costa Rica

If you ever wondered what it would be like to get stranded by plane in a tree, you can now find out. Minus the danger factor, of course! Part of the hotel is a legit Boeing 727 that has been refurbished for sleeping. It’s suspended high up in the trees, so your view will be fantastic. Step out of the luxurious room in the plane to the balcony, where you can say hello to your neighbors: the monkeys and toucans of the jungle. Now, that’s what I call a treehouse!

Vliegtuigsuite Teuge, Netherlands

This is the extravagantly luxurious version of the hotel described above. You get the entire craft to yourself, and you can enjoy the expensive furnishings and glass of champagne in comfort with your sweetheart. Imagine breakfast in bed, a hot tub, a sauna, and flat screen TVs for your perfect stay. You can even sit at the wheel! If you like, you can take a flight lesson while you’re there. This hotel is so popular for honeymooners that the staff has created a special package to make your post-wedding relaxation as perfect as possible.

Aviator Hotel, England

A mix of the classic and the modern, this airplane-themed hotel is certainly something delightfully different. Although it’s close to the runway of a nearby airport, the soundproofing in the hotel does the job so you can sleep restfully all night. Plus, you have a great view of the planes taking off all day! The food at the hotel is excellent, and the aviation décor is very cool. You really can’t beat the Aviator Hotel.

This is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. Airplane hotels? What in the world? Can you say, “FIELD TRIP”? I would love to visit these countries and stay in one of these unique hotels. Transforming airplanes into hotels is a nifty idea. Great way to preserve older models of planes. I never knew this was a thing.

The Fuselage Home looks very interesting! I am not sure how comfortable I would feel walking to the front of that plane though! I mean clearly, it is set in place and held real well but still, I would be very nervous! I love the design though. Same for the Woodlyn Park Plane Motel. Both are very cool designs!

These are so cool! As an aviation enthusiast I have to say that I’m dying to stay in every single one of these. I actually saw the one in New Zealand when I was there a couple of years ago, but I didn’t stay there. I think the top of my list would probably be the airport in South Africa and Vliegtuigsuite Teuge in the Netherlands. What an awesome list. Who knew there were so many airplane hotels out there.

No matter where I’m travelling, I always do my best to find hotels that I’ll remember over a couple of years, the comfort may not be the same but the experience is always worth it.
