The Caribbean is full of stars—and we’re not just talking sea stars. If you want to chance upon celebrities, plan your next vacation in the tropics! The Caribbean is a big place with lots of nooks and crannies, so be strategic when planning to stargaze. The best celebrity hangouts are, of course, not as easy to get to as other parts of the Caribbean. But if you know where to look, you certainly won’t be disappointed! For a red-carpet beach, look no further than these spots in the Caribbean.
Saint Barthelemy is the ultimate Caribbean celebrity hangout. Unfortunately, it’s also ridiculously expensive for the sake of discouraging us peasants from joining the party. If you do it right, though, you can totally afford a trip to the island. Saint Bart’s is reachable by a flight to nearby Saint Martin’s Princess Julianna Airport. If you land on Saint Martin, you can drive across the island to Philipsburg for a boat or take a puddle jumper plane to the landing strip on St. Bart’s. Once you’re there, you’ll be ruined for Caribbean beaches forever. St. Barth’s has some of the most beautiful, clean, and well-kempt beaches in the area. No wonder Jay-Z, Beyoncé, and Ashton Kutcher love spending so much time there! Check out any of the tiny island’s pristine beaches and be sure to visit popular dining in the area for a chance at a celebrity sighting.
Paradise Island, Bahamas
Everyone loves the Bahamas, no doubt about it. But Paradise Island is the place that celebrities love. Nicholas Cage loves it so much that he built his vacation home there! Paradise Island is off the coast of Nassau and was once ignominiously named Hog Island. Luckily, all the hogs have either left or been relegated out of sight, and the island has been claimed as a refuge for the rich and famous. If you can’t afford to be neighbors with Nicholas Cage, you can at least visit the island for a weekend. Atlantis Resort is a popular place for tourists to stay and play on Paradise Island. And there is plenty to do there—gambling, exploring, and, of course, beaching it are all popular island activities.
Like Saint Barth’s, Anguilla is also accessible through Saint Martin. Unlike the larger, busier island of Saint Martin, quiet Anguilla is actually on the map. This is due to the large influx of high-profile tourists who come through to island regularly. Even if you aren’t a celebrity, you’ll still be treated like on an Anguilla. I’ve been to Anguilla several times and the respect and attention I get as soon as I step off the ferry never ceases to surprise me! Anguilla’s low population means no public transport, so you’ll need to get a taxi if you want to visit Anguilla’s famous Shoal Bay Beach, which is across the island from the ferry terminal. The taxi drivers are generously extremely courteous and treat you like a VIP, whether you’re Justin Timberlake or not. Speaking of Justin Timberlake, you might even see him on Anguilla—he loves the island so much that he sang about it in one of his songs. Other celebrities known to visit Anguilla include Paris Hilton, Liam Neeson, Denzel Washington, and Sandra Bullock.
If you’re a United States citizen, Puerto Rico is an obvious Caribbean destination choice. You won’t need a passport or have to go through the hassle of international travel, yet you’ll get a cross-cultural Caribbean experience. Honestly, you don’t need to try to sight celebrities on vacation, because so many famous people originate from Puerto Rico. Want to see the hometown of Ricky Martin, Carlos Beltran, or Benacio del Toro? Look no further. Besides local celebrities, J Lo and Angie Harmon, among others, are known to enjoy Puerto Rico’s beautiful beaches. If you want to sleep where celebrities slept, stay in the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort or El San Juan Hotel & Casino.
Anguilla is not Britain’s only Caribbean celebrity attraction. Beautiful Bermuda also attracts the rich and famous with its pink and white sand beaches. So many celebrities let loose on their summer homes in Bermuda that a tourism industry is emerging around stargazing. You can take a boat cruise around the island and photograph celebrity homes during your trip to Bermuda. Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones own homes on the island, so you may see not only their houses, but the stars themselves! Even long-gone celebrities used to crash here. You can chill at the same places where John Lennon once sipped a cool drink in the shade.
Tons of our favorite celebs are either Jamaican or have Jamaican roots, so Jamaica has no shortage of stars sunning on its beaches. Model Tyson Beckford lived in Jamaica until he was seven years old, for example, and Colin Powell’s parents were both from Jamaica. Lil Wayne has been known to stay at Half Moon Hotel, and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and her hubby have spent time at Hyat Ziva Rose Hall. With so many celebrities crushing on Jamaica, there’s no way it won’t be an awesome vacation spot for you, too.
You may not be able to have the lifestyle of the rich and famous, but you can still visit some of celebrities’ preferred travel destinations. Island hopping in the Caribbean offers more than a few chances to stargaze and catch a glimpse of your favorite celebs.
