How to Take Your Kids to Disney World for (Almost) Free

The cost of taking your family to Disney World is rising, so you may need to start becoming a little more creative if you want to make your family’s wishes come true with this dream vacation destination. Now, it is impossible to get into Disney World for free, but there are certain things that you can do to keep costs down on travel, accommodations, and of course, your tickets into the park.

Transportation

Airfare can be expensive, but that cost can be eliminated or almost eliminated if you do a few things. Southwest is one of the best airlines to fly into Orlando on because they are continuously offering great deals. Throughout the year, you may find it possible to fly to Orlando for $59 one way per person. Now that’s not free, but it is much better than $300-$400 per person round trip.

Signing up for Southwest’s Rapid Rewards Frequent Flier Program is a great way to earn free flights for yourself and your family. This is a great tool, especially if you or your spouse travels a lot for work, because you can earn at least 2,000 miles per flight that you take.

The Frequent Flier Program is fabulous, but there are other ways that you can accumulate miles if you do not fly. The Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Card will allow you to accumulate points when you use the card to make purchases. Plus, if you spend at least $2,000 on the card within the first three months, you will get 50,000 bonus points. Credit cards are tricky, because you never want to carry a balance on them. However, if you can use your card to pay your bills each month and then pay the card using the funds that you would have used to pay the bills, you can reach a lot of miles quickly.

It will depend on when you are flying to Orlando as to how many points you will need for free tickets, but if you find a deal where it is $59 each way per person, you would need approximately 21,000 points for a family of five to travel for free.

Accommodations

Hotels are a little easier when it comes to spending less and saving more. There are many hotels that offer a free room after spending a certain number of nights, but there are also ways to get completely free hotel stays. Hyatt has a credit card where you can accumulate points that you can exchange for free rooms. When you open the account, you can get 2 free nights at any Hyatt hotel if you spend $1,000 within the first three months. You would also get a free night placed into your account every year on your anniversary.

The number of points you need for hotel rooms vary, but you should be able to find a room at a Hyatt in Orlando for approximately 15,000 points per night. Even if you only have enough points for six nights of a seven-night stay, that is a huge amount of money that you are saving!

Disney Rewards

The cost of the tickets into Disney World is continuing to rise and the only way to keep those costs down is to earn gift cards to purchase your tickets. It is very easy to earn Disney gift cards when you have a Chase Disney Rewards Credit Card. Every new cardmember will automatically earn a $50 Disney gift card when they make a purchase with their card. After that, they earn one percent back on all of their purchases.

As an additional bonus, guests can save ten percent when they are shopping at designated stores in Disney World and pay using the Chase Disney Rewards Credit Card. Guests can also receive a ten percent discount when they are dining at certain locations while at Disney World.

All of these ideas can be used together so that you can travel to Disney World for free or as cheap as possible. You just want to be smart about how you use your credit cards, because a free vacation is not going to be free if you are still in debt from frivolous purchases that you made prior to the trip so you could have enough points for the free trip!

There are probably other ways that you can save additional money while in Disney too, so you might want to see how creative you can get and how low you can keep the cost of your dream vacation. You might be surprised at what you can come up with!
