Croatia has some of the world’s top attractions

If you’re not familiar with Eastern Europe, you may not know that Croatia is one of the world’s most popular destinations. In fact, a twenty percent of its GDP comes from the tourism industry! When you visit the many incredible sights in Croatia, you can see why it is such a popular place to visit. From old buildings to natural wonders, there are few places in the world that rival Croatia. No matter where you go in the country, you’ll be able to enjoy something new at every turn.

Croatia features natural wonders that you can’t find anywhere else in the world. Its waterfalls are perhaps the best-known of its beautiful outdoor sights. One of the coolest places to see waterfalls in Croatia is Plitvice Lakes National Park. This huge forest is famous for its terraced lakes that feed into one another by waterfalls. If you’re in Southern Croatia, check out Krka National Park. It has a series of stunning waterfalls, as well.

While exploring Croatia’s outdoor world, don’t forget to visit the area’s many islands. At the top of your list, put down the most famous island beach destination in the country! The top tourist destination in Croatia is Brac, a lovely island in the Adriatic Sea. It is famous for its beautiful beach, where windsurfing is very popular.

Beautiful Kozima is another Croatian island that you can’t miss. For those sailing on a yacht charter, it is the ideal coastal getaway. However, it’s just as nice for those traveling by ferry. Kozima has long been a fishing village, but it has become very popular for the yacht chartering crowd. It’s easy to see why—the dramatic views are hard to beat! Lovely 17th Century stone houses dot the side of the hills, and the sea in this area is the deepest blue you’ve ever seen.

While you’re there, don’t forget to visit Bisevo, home of the famed Blue Grotto. It feels like a fantasy come to life! Imagine swimming in the eerie magic of a bottom-lit cave. This is an experience that you’ll always remember!

Hit the beach

Croatia is world-famous for its pristine beaches. There’s a beautiful beach waiting for you no matter what vibe you’re looking for. Postcard-perfect Zlatni Rat offers a spit of sand beach (a rarity in Croatia)known as the Golden Horn that pierces the deep blue waters of the Adriatic Sea. Naturists can go au naturel at nude beaches like Kandalora Beach and Brela Beach. To dive all day, party all night, try Girandella Beach, home to beachside DJs, techno music, and summer music festivals, including Sunrise Festival and the Rabac Summer Festival.

In Croatia, there are many interesting ruins and historic sites to visit! To begin, you can visit Diocletian’s Palace, the home and fortress of a Roman emperor. Once you’ve seen this, take a trip to the island of Korcula. It is famous for its walls and towers that date to the Middle Ages. Even more ancient than these ruins is the Cathedral of Saint Domnius. This structure was built in AD 305! It features ornate décor and a Romanesque bell tower.

Visit Vis Town, and you’ll get a chance to witness a thousand years of Croatia’s history. An opportunity like this doesn’t come every day! Travel inland for a stroll through the Roman baths and the Greek cemetery, or walk through medieval times at the English fortress. Take a trip to the remains of a medieval village, or head to the new side of the town for a gander at the docks. And by “new,” I mean “less old.” The later developments of Vis Town were done in the 19th Century, and most of the buildings date to that era. They aren’t as old as the other buildings, but they are just as beautiful and artistic.

Croatia offers fun entertainment

Pretty much every beach town on every island offers hopping nightlife during the summer season. From dance parties on the beach to alternative clubs to music festivals, you won’t be disappointed. The best place to party in Croatia is Hvar Town, an extremely busy port town. Enjoy the jovial atmosphere of the party life, hanging out in the bars and night clubs for the ultimate vacation craziness.

If you want to experience a tamer or more authentically local experience, visit in the off season. Dubrovnik’s Old Town is a maze of intimate bars and restaurants. Rovinj City, on the Istrian coast, offers more sophisticated nightlife, with open air wine bars, live music festivals, including the Summer Salsa Festival, and a more romantic atmosphere.

Looking for something more unusual to do for an afternoon? If you’ve had your fill of ruins and beaches, you can try one of Croatia’s rather weird and eccentric attractions. Make a visit to the Museum of Broken Relationships! This is basically a breakup museum where people leave mementos and personal stories. It’s definitely weird and maybe even a little depressing in parts, but it’s also hysterical and will keep you laughing all afternoon.
