New York City Cocktails – NYC’s Best Margaritas

Summertime in New York is a sunny, super-fun, and often sweltering time. We spend so much of the year indoors summer is our time to head outside and shine! But there is such a thing as too much shine, and a cold beverage can take you from sweaty to tipsy faster than you can say olé! Join us for one of NYC’s best Margaritas and let the summer fun commence…
Chavelas, Crown Heights

You know a restaurant is serious about a cocktail when they have their secret house recipe on tap. With an awesome brunch and the best chilaquiles to boot, Chavelas is famous for its delicious food, Margaritas, and Mexican-style hand-crafted cocktails. Enjoy a classic house Margarita, a hand-crafted Mezcal Margarita, or bring the best of two worlds together with the half-Margarita-half-Sangria Campechana – all of which are also available as pitchers. Pitcher for one please! Special mention goes to the amazing Don Pepino – a heady mix of Tequila Reposado, cucumber, cilantro, with a Tajin-seasoned rim. One is never enough.

Chavelas’ Happy Hour is Monday to Friday from 4-7pm, and includes $6 classic Margaritas, $3 tacos, $4 beers, $5 Micheladas, and $6 Sangrias. How can you say no?

Chilo’s, Bed Stuy

Chilo’s is a bar – and outdoor beer garden! – with a cheap as hell taco truck out back. That’s a very good thing as you’re going to need more than a few tacos to line that stomach, as Chilo’s are the Mexican Margarita kings of Bed Stuy. Hand-crafted classic Margaritas that will knock your little cotton socks off, along-side Spicy Margaritas, Frozen Margaritas, flavored Margaritas, Tropical Painkillers, Frosé, and more specialty cocktails than you poke a stick at. Plus, they feature a weekly guest cocktail of which $1 from the price tag goes to the ACLU. Social justice and sumptuous drinks – this place is a Mexican Margarita magical land!

Chilo’s Happy Hour runs Monday to Friday from 4-6:30pm and serves up $8 Margaritas, plus $1 off draft beers, cans, well drinks, wines, and 3 Tacos + a Tecate for $10. Magical!

Rosarito Fish Shack, Williamsburg

Take a tour of New York City’s most trendy and talked about neighborhood, Williamsburg, and indulge in some of the finest Mexican food and drinks this side of the Mexican border. With creamy guacamole, and extensive seafood bar, and tacos to die for, Rosarito’s has something for everyone. Their Rosarito Margarita is a classic combination of El Jimador Blanco, lemon/lime juice, agave nectar, triple sec, salt rim – fresh, clean, and simple yet tasty as hell, and pairs perfectly with the simple and fresh culinary delights Rosarito’s serves up. Special mentions abound at this modest hot spot, including the Opuntia Margarita (El Jimador Blanco, prickly pear, cucumber, mint, agave nectar, lime juice, tajin rim), the Mango Caliente (Gin, mango juice, lime juice, agave syrup, jalapeno), and the ever so dangerous Spicy Painkiller (Cachaca, disaronno, coconut, lime, sugar, jalapeno, turmeric). They certainly spoil you for choice!

Rosarito’s has an epic Happy Hour which runs Monday to Friday from 5-8pm, and includes two-for-one Margaritas for twice the fun!

Goodnight Sonny, East Village

On a recent trip to this East Village staple I started off with my go-to cocktail, a Gibson Martini. Tasty as it was, as I sipped at my savory selection I couldn’t help but notice almost every single person around me was drinking the same drink. Enter the Sunny Orchard Margarita – a delicious blend of tequila, fresh pressed green apple juice, roasted jalapeño marmalade, lime, and agave, finished with a smoked cayenne salt rim. Any attempt to describe how delicious this dangerously moreish cocktail is would not do it justice. It goes down like a breezy summers day that you never want to end. Special mention goes to the exotic San Pedro’s Journey – a fusion of mezcal, cactus fruit, agave, lime juice, and Thai chili tincture, with a pink peppercorn & sea salt rim. Get yourself to Sonny’s this instant!

Sonny’s Happy Hour is every day (!!) from 4-7pm and includes selected cocktails, beers and wines, and… wait for it… DOLLAR OYSTERS

5 Burro Cafe, Forest Hills

This one may be a little of the beat and track for some, but the longer-than-usual F train journey is worth it (and the subway is air-conditioned, remember!). 5 Burro offers a dazzling array of authentic Mexican food and arrives in more than healthy sized portions. Add to that their famous, fruity, and flavorful frozen Margaritas and you’re onto a win! Frozen versus rocks, salted or not, these mason jar Margaritas are something to behold, and they also pack a sizeable punch. Blue Curacao, raspberry, melon, peach-mango, apricot, banana, apple, watermelon, pomegranate, passionfruit, coconut – these are just some of the flavors on offer at 5 Burro. Let the fruity tastes of summer take you from the city streets of Queens to the beaches of Mexico. Be aware, 5 Burro Café is a very popular spot, so there can often be a wait. I’m sure you’ll find it’s worth it!
