The fun and excitement never ends at Universal Studios Orlando, and beginning in 2018, visitors are going to have even more rides to get their hearts racing and more attractions to see. That means that everyone is going to want to spend even more time at all the Universal parks, hopping between them all, so that they can get the full experience of not only the new additions, but everything that has been there forever.
Here is what’s new at Universal Studios Orlando in 2018:
1 The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle
The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle made its debut on January 31st of 2018, after a successful holiday season where Universal debuted The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle. State of the art projection mapping will be used along with special effects and lighting to wrap Hogwarts Castle into a spectacular display. The four houses of Hogwarts will be celebrated including Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. The castle will be lit up on certain nights of the year through Labor Day and the dates will be announced on Universal Studios Orlando’s website.
2 Voodoo Doughnut at CityWalk
Voodoo Doughnut will be arriving at Universal’s CityWalk during the Spring of 2018, and people will be lining up to order their sinfully delicious doughnuts. These doughnuts might sound a little strange to those who have never had one before, with names like the Memphis Mafia, the Dirt Doughnut, and the Bacon Maple Bar, but once a person has tried one, they will never be able to eat any another kind! Everyone will know when Voodoo Doughnut is open at CityWalk, because they will see people wandering around holding pink boxes full of amazingly yummy doughnuts!
3 Fast and Furious Supercharged
This action-packed ride will be ready for people to climb aboard in the Spring of 2018. The ride promises a full-throttle and high-octane experience that includes Dom, Letty, Hobbs, and the rest of the Fast and Furious crew. The beginning of the ride begins very low-key with riders checking out the vehicles and the locations that were used during filming, but then the enemy arrives, and things do downhill quickly. Everyone needs to stay together, while working as one to escape danger and arrive home safe from the enemy.
While standing in line for this ride and throughout the ride, people will see fifteen authentic Fast and Furious cars that were used during filming. However, everyone will not need to wait in line for long periods of time if they take advantage of the Virtual Line feature that will be available. This feature allows people to select a return time as well as their party size, so that they don’t have to spend wasted time in line. Instead, they can go enjoy other rides in the park and return when it is their time to go on Fast and Furious Supercharged.
4 Universal’s Aventura Hotel
The Aventura Hotel at Universal Studios Orlando will be opening in August of 2018, and it is quite the modern place to stay. Guests will be able to see all three Universal Studios Orlando theme parks from the six hundred rooms. Anyone who stays at the Aventura will gain early park admission to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as well as complimentary shuttle buses.
At the end of a long day at the theme parks, guests can return to the Aventura to use the pool and kids’ splash zone, the fitness center, or relax at either the rooftop or poolside bar. The game room will be a hit with both the kids and adults, as it will give everyone a chance to relax at any time of the day or night.
These are the four new items that are opening at Universal Studios Orlando this year, but there are more highly anticipated attractions on the way. Here’s a sneak preview of a couple exciting new experiences coming to Universal Studios in the next few years.
A New Harry Potter Roller Coaster
This one is being kept under wraps. They haven’t even released a name for this new family-friendly roller coaster as of yet, but it is expected to be opening at some point in 2019. Guests will find themselves in new areas of Harry Potter’s world as storytelling is taken to a new level on this roller coaster.
Rumors are swirling as to the story-line of the attraction, which will replace Dragon Challenge. Universal describes the ride as “one of the most highly-themed coaster experiences” they’ve ever built. Top bets are on a Hagrid motorcycle and sidecar theme or the Mack Rides’ Inverted Powered Coaster. We can’t wait to find out!
Super Nintendo World
It might be a long wait for the exciting Super Nintendo World as it is not anticipated to be open until at least 2020 and it could be even as late of 2024. Hopefully that time line will change, because that seems like a very long time for guests to wait for a thrilling Mario Kart and Donkey Kong ride.
This might be the year for a visit if it has been a while for anyone, as there are so many new rides, attractions, and entertainment venues for people to see. Although, if this is the year for people, they will definitely want to go in the next couple of years when even bigger and better things are promised for Universal Studios Orlando!
