Orlando has long been known as the place for families to go when they are looking for theme park adventures and excitement. After all, once you add up all the theme parks and water parks, there are more than a dozen for people to enjoy in the city. While every single one of them is jam packed with things to do, it seems that each year brings even more fun with new attractions. On top of all those, the city also welcomes new restaurants and resorts every year as well.
Here is what is new in Orlando for 2018:
Walt Disney World
Toy Story Land
Toy Story Land is on schedule to open in summer of 2018 and eleven acres will be full of everything related to Buzz, Andy, and other favorite Toy Story characters. There are two new attractions opening in this area including the Slinky Dog Dash and the Alien Swirling Saucers. The Slinky Dog Dash is a family friendly roller coaster and the Alien Swirling Saucers has aliens flying around in saucers trying to use their claw to capture guests in their rocket vehicles.
Universal Orlando Resort
Fast & Furious – Supercharged
Fast-paced and heart racing are two words that everyone will use when they describe this ride that is opening in spring of 2018. Guests will join Dom, Letty, Hobbs, and the rest of the crew as they all check out some of the vehicles that were used during the filming of the movies. The fun quickly comes to an end when the enemy arrives, and the chase begins. Everyone will need to keep up with the Fast & Furious crew if they want to escape and return to safety.
Ray Rush is a new family raft slide that will open at SeaWorld’s Aquatica in spring of 2018. This slide has three different adventures with the first being that the raft launches quickly from the water jets. Then the raft will twist and turn inside a water sphere before arriving at the manta wings where it will go in a different direction every time.
Legoland Florida Resort
The Great Lego Race
Racers, start your engines! The Great Lego Race will open on March 23rd, combining a roller coaster with virtual reality. Guests will race against LEGO minifigures including a pirate, wizard, surfer, and pharaoh while steering LEGO built vehicles like a scooter, a canopied bed, and a windsurfing rig.
New Restaurants Coming to Disney Springs
The Disney Spring’s Jaleo will be Chef José Andrés newest restaurant and it will be opening in 2018. This location will be his largest and will feature an extensive menu of tapas that will reflect his love of traditional and contemporary Spanish cuisine. Some favorite menu items will be authentic paellas cooked over a wood fire, wood grilled Ibérico pork, Jamón Ibérico de Bellota, and classic Spanish chicken fritters.
Wine Bar George
Master Sommelier George Miliotes is opening Wine Bar George in Disney Springs in the spring of 2018 to share his love of wine with everyone who visits the Orlando area. He is one of two hundred and thirty Master Sommeliers in the world, so his vast knowledge will be welcomed and appreciated by everyone who walks inside the Wine Bar.
Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill
Wolfgang Puck is one of the world’s most famous chefs and this restaurant will be opening in the summer of 2018 to replace the former Wolfgang Puck Grand Café. This restaurant will feature dishes with Mediterranean influences and include many of the chef’s signature dishes and handcrafted specialty cocktails.
New Hotels and Resorts
Universal’s Aventura Hotel
Universal Studios Orlando’s newest resort will be opening in August of 2018 with views of all three Universal theme parks. Aventura is modern, stylish, vibrant, and calming all at the same time with six hundred contemporary style rooms. There are sixteen floors in all and out of all those guest rooms, thirteen of them will be kids’ suites. The rooftop bar and grill will be a first for Universal, and guests will be able to relax up there at the end of a long day at the park. Aventura also offers exclusive amenities including early park admission and complimentary onsite transportation.
Margaritaville Resort Orlando
Guests will love staying at this waterfront destination that will be comprised of one hundred seventy-five guestrooms, one thousand vacation homes, and three hundred timeshare units. This resort will have walking trails, a wellness center, water park, dining and entertainment district, and an onsite water taxi system to easily reach it all. The Margaritaville Resort Orlando is a piece of paradise in the middle of paradise and will open towards the end of 2018.
The Delaney Hotel
The Delaney Hotel will be opening in March of 2018 in the SoHo District of Downtown Orlando. This boutique hotel will have fifty-four rooms and there will be quite a few high-tech conveniences for guests to enjoy. Everyone can check-in remotely, connect with the concierge via a tablet, and enter their room with their smartphone.
These are some of the new additions that Orlando will be welcoming to the city in 2018 and the future looks even better in 2019 and beyond with even more attractions, resorts, restaurants, and shops opening.
